About the Western Canada Career Development Association (WCCDA)

The Western Canada Career Development Association (WCCDA) is a non-profit professional association supporting career development practitioners.

Originally incorporated in 2010, the organization was formed through the merger of the BC Career Management Association (LMI Career Management Association of BC) and the ENET Society (Employment, Network, Education, and Training Society). The convergence of these two communities created a stronger, more unified voice for career and employment professionals in the region. As our community grew and our reach expanded beyond BC, we evolved into WCCDA to better reflect the broader scope of our work.

Our Mission

To advance the field of career development and support the professional growth of practitioners across Western Canada. We promote high standards of practice, foster connection, and advocate for the value of career development services to individuals, communities, and the economy.

What We Do

• Host the region’s leading annual Western Canada Career Development Conference

• Offer learning and professional development opportunities year-round, tailored to support ongoing maintenance of the national Certified Career Development Professional (CCDP) designation. 

• Build communities of practice and peer support networks across the region

• Share tools, resources, and updates to strengthen everyday practice

• Advocate for the career development sector with employers, government, and the public
  
  

Our Members

Our membership includes professionals across the full spectrum of career and employment services. These practitioners work in employment counselling, workforce development, rehabilitation, career advising, HR, settlement services, and more. They serve in a range of settings, including:

• Government-funded employment programs

• Non-profit and community-based agencies

• Private career and employment service firms

• Outplacement and career transition services

• Public and private educational institutions

• Corporations and independent consultancies

The Western Canada Career Development Association (WCCDA) was established to amplify the voice of career development professionals and foster connections that advance our field. Our name reflects a vision of regional collaboration and shared learning, not a claim of representation across every province.

We want to be clear: WCCDA does not plan to recruit members in Saskatchewan or Manitoba, nor to represent the members of the Saskatchewan Career Development Association (SKCDA) or the Manitoba Association for Career Development (MACD). We fully respect the important role of these associations, their unique histories, and the distinct ways they serve their members.

Our focus remains on serving our membership and strengthening our roots. At the same time, we are committed to working in partnership with colleagues across the West and beyond. We believe the future of career development depends on collaboration, respect, and innovation across provincial associations, and we are excited to contribute to that shared future.

Supporting National Certification for Career Professionals

Western Canada Career Development Association is a proud supporter of the Canadian  National Certified Career Development Professional (CCDP) designation. 

Formerly known as BCCDA, our organization has been a long-standing champion and leader in the development and delivery of certification for career professionals in British Columbia for decades.

In 2025, we proudly passed the baton to the National Certification Team, marking a new chapter in a unified approach to professional standards across Canada.

Our commitment continues. WCCDA remains a leader in providing high-quality professional development opportunities tailored to meet the ongoing learning requirements for maintaining the National CCDP designation. We also support those seeking to obtain their certification by regularly sharing information, resources, and updates about the National CCDP process.

We are honoured to contribute to the growth and credibility of the career development field by supporting professionals at every stage of their certification journey.
